This week, I listened to two podcasts that made me think about the economics of early-stage businesses and how they are perceived by investors. It also shed light on how this perception impacts the founder and employees. I believe it’s important to first lay down the dots and then connect them in a way that provides a clear picture for an entrepreneur from an investor’s perspective.

I thought it would be good to lay down the dots first and then try to link them just enough so that when the jig-saw is put together although each piece may not make much sense but together will give a clear picture for an entrepreneur from the shoes of an investor.

Direct Listing can be an alternative to an IPO for private company directors and CEOs when considering liquidity options for their company. It’s worth discussing this option with your boards.

In the traditional IPO route, new shares are created and sold to the public. In this scenario, the company works closely with underwriters/bankers.

Investing in capital markets has been one the most rewarding in the medium to long term but I have been a strong advisor of the basic financial hygiene that one needs to maintain before venturing into markets. I use markets as a broad term here since it covers ETF’s, bonds, stocks, mutual funds which are available to invest in through brokers.
